2022 World Cup Pre-PLAAY w/ Alternate Ratings

Fixin' to start a quick-play 2022 World Cup Pre-PLAAY using the Universal Instant Results chart for Soccer Blast.
However, instead of using PLAAY's team ratings, I'm going to be using the ratings from The World Cup Tournament Football Game (1993) from Australian Design Group. I prefer this ratings set for the national teams because it's based on their performance throughout history as opposed to the most recent rankings.

I've finished the Group Play portion of the tournament with some very interesting results. Here are the final standings: (Note that ties were broken by goal differential and then by goals scored.)

This just keeps getting more interesting.
In the first semifinal, Germany sends England home whimpering by a score of 4-0.
Second semifinal sees another big upset for Mexico, this time over Spain, 2-1. (Mexico had previously upset France in the Round of 16.)
So the Third Place Game will be England vs. Spain, and the World Cup Final will be Germany vs. Mexico. |

Third-Place Match: Spain 1, England 0.
And following fifteen knockout matches with nary a match going to extra time, we finally get one in the World Cup Final. Germany and Mexico are tied 3-3 following regulation time. Germany is able to score again in extra time and hold off Mexico to win it all, 4-3 in extra time.
This project may not have mirrored real life, but it was a lot of fun, especially for me personally, since my father's side of the family is from Germany, and I currently live in Mexico. |
