1948 STATIS PRO BASEBALL CARDS

This zip file contains the following:

1. My 1948 Statis Pro Baseball cards on a PDF file,
2. The 1948 Major League Batter averages and ratings on another PDF,
3. The 1948 Major League Pitcher averages and ratings on yet another PDF,
4. The 1948 Major League Fielder averages and ratings on still another PDF,
5. A text file of the 1948 American and National League batting, pitching and fielding averages, plus tranactions and most common lineups
6. A copy of my own Statis Pro Baseball scoresheet on another PDF, and
7. This README file.

One thing I should mention: The text file and all the stats used to create the cards were obtained free of charge from and is copyrighted by one of the best baseball stat sites on the web, Retrosheet. Interested parties may contact Retrosheet at "www.retrosheet.org".

A few notes:

This was my second attempt at making a set of Statis Pro cards. After such a good response to my 2007 cards, I decided to try to create seasons I want but can't find anywhere else, beginning with two season featuring two great Cleveland Indians teams, 1948 and 1954.
As before, I did all by hand, without aid of a special card-making program. All totalled, it again took me about 21 days to finish the cards.
But, once again, I had to figure certain ratings, outfielders' and catchers' arm ratings being the two most difficult, from the stats I could find. My outfield arm ratings are based on outfield assists only, my catcher ratings are based mostly on stolen base and caught stealing numbers, but also upon catcher assists as well.
So, once again I say this -- If you believe a rating is wrong for a certain player or groups of players, it probably is. Go ahead and change it.

This being an old season, I decided to do something different, in that all pitchers and every non-pitching batter who appeared in 1948 is included in this set. In fact, there are a couple batters who are also included as pitchers because they were forced to work an inning or two. What I did not do is make individual batting cards for all pitchers. Instead, I made team batting cards, just as I did for the 2007 set.

Still, you will notice symbols or letters on the bottom right of some cards. Those are to distinguish regular cards from others. Here's what those symbols mean:

BLANK: A regular card. Stats used for that player are solely for time spent with that team in 1948.
*: A combined Major League card. Stats used were combined from every team that player spent time with in 1948.
A: A combined American League card. Stats used were combined from every AL team that player spent time with in 1948.
N: A combined American League card. Stats used were combined from every NL team that player spent time with in 1948.
X: An extra card. This player had fewer than 50 at bats or 30 innings pitched for that team only in 1948.
XA: An extra combined AL card. This player had fewer than 50 at bats or 30 innings pitched combined in the AL in 1948.
XN: An extra combined NL card. This player had fewer than 50 at bats or 30 innings pitched combined in the NL in 1948.
Z: An extra combined MLB card. This player had fewer than 50 at bats or 30 innings pitched combined in the majors in 1948.

A note about all these cards: The reason the extra cards are included is that I made a mistake. I simply forgot to sort out those players with less than 50 at bats or 30 innings pitched. So, if you plan on using the card set to re-create a season, you should not use only the X cards (not XA, XN or Z) and only use them for more than their actual number of at bats or innings pitched, because overuse could adversely effect the final outcome. If you're just playing a game or two, go ahead an use them. In short, go ahead and do what you want with them. Wanna dump 'em? Go right ahead.

Again, this file contains all my own work, the basic cards using the second edition card formulas. I offer these cards free of charge. The 1954 set should come out later this year, and even with the amount of work I put into both sets, you might see a new set for the 2008 season. I know there are people who charge for new Statis Pro seasons, and you should purchase their cards (which I plan to do when I get the money).

Until then, enjoy the cards.
