Announcing Player of the Game Hockey
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of Player of the Game Hockey.

Player of the Game Hockey is the creation of John Kechejian, and I am proud and honored to have John join the Downey Games family.

Player of the Game Hockey is a quick playing (10-15 minutes) hockey game that allows you to complete hockey seasons quickly and accurately. Leading goal scorers, key-playmakers, and clutch goaltenders will all perform as they did in real-life. Each game provides realistic scoring, identifies goal scorers and time of goal, and who assisted along with a sense of the actual ebb and flow of real hockey action.

Player of the Game Hockey is a true hybrid game much like it's Basketball counterpart. The game plays rapidly (10-15 minutes) but offers a complete box score. With Player of the Game Hockey, you'll be able to track not only team statistics, but complete individual stats as well. Shots on goal, Power Plays, Short Handed goals, and penalty minutes are all accounted for in the game. You won't find another hockey game that allows you to play a game as quickly with FULL STATS!

Player of the Game Hockey offers gamers two options in which to resolve games. The game was originally completely dice and chart driven. That version is included within the game part package. Later, the game was adapted to a Fast Action Deck for even greater speed of play, and silky smooth flow. John and I recommend playing the FAC version of the game, as it really does flow much like hockey, and plays even more rapidly than the dice and chart version. However, the method in which you play is entirely up to you. Both formats offer the same statistical precision, and quick game play. Neither version will take you longer than 15 minutes to play a full game with complete team and individual stats!

I have designed several quick-play games over the past five years, and played many, many others. I honestly don’t believe that you will find a better quick playing game on the market. Since presented with the game, I’ve truly become addicted to Player of the Game. It has that quality where you just want to play one more game, and after a while, you find yourself realizing that you’ve played a dozen or so games.

Order your copy and get on the ice today!

As with all offerings from Downey Games, we offer the game in printed format, as well as an Electronic E-Book download.

The printed versions feature a die-cut FAC deck, and die-cut team cards printed in full-color.

Seasons available at the initial release are: 1943-44 NHL, 1967-68 NHL, 1976-77 NHL, 1982-83 NHL, and the past (2006-07) NHL seasons.

  1995-96 NHL Season Released
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of the 1995-96 NHL season for BigBep Hockey.

Re-live the fun and excitement of the 1995-96 National Hockey season. The yearbook includes every team and all skaters.

Play out the 1996 season with the best hockey game on the planet!

The 1995-96 season was the 79th regular season of the National League. Twenty-six teams each played 82 games. The Cup winners were the Colorado team, who swept the Florida franchise in four games.

1995-96 was the first season in Denver for the Colorado franchise, who had relocated from Quebec City where they were previously known as the Quebec Nordiques.

It was also the last season of existence for the Winnipeg Jets, as they announced that they would be moving from Manitoba to Arizona and become the Phoenix team at season's end.

The Detroit squad had a spectacular season, finishing with the second-highest regular-season point total in history (131 points), yet they fell to Colorado in the Western Conference final, the sixth game of which marked the beginning of the heated Detroit-Colorado rivalry.

This yearbook utilizes the "Tough Guy" chart and ratings. This addresses players with high penalty minutes and also adds another layer of strategy for solitaire and head-to-head coaching.

The BigBep Printed Yearbooks come in two formats; a printed team sheet offering, and individual die-cut cards. Both offerings are in vivid, professionally printed, full-color.

  Announcing Game Winning Drive Football
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of Game Winning Drive Football

Game Winning Drive Football is a quick play Football game designed by Rick Kucz and Philippe Riviere. Every team is rated for scoring ability, rushing, passing, kicking, propensity to fumble and throw interceptions on offense. On the defensive side, each team is rated for scoring allowed, rushing, passing, ability to force fumbles and interceptions and 4th down (3rd Down for the CFL) defensive ability. Everything you need to play, other than six-sided dice is included in the E-Book. Printed Versions come with everything needed to play, and are printed in full-color. Game Winning Drive uses no external charts or FACs.

I am very proud of all my football offerings at Downey Games. But, this may be the single most addictive football game I've ever played.

For the initial release, we have the following offerings:

2006 NFL
2007 CFL
2006 NCAA
1965 AFL
1965 NFL

Game Winning Drive Football allows you to quickly play a game between two teams while capturing the entire ebb and flow of Canadian football. With Game Winning Drive, you’ll be able to “see” teams grind it out on the ground, or throw all over the field for scores. The defensive side of the football is not neglected in Game Winning Drive, as you’ll “see” great defenses in action, and directly impact the game.

As in real football, special teams play and turnovers have an impact in Game Winning Drive Football. You’ll “see” the impact of a short field for the opposing team after an interception or fumble. The dangerous Kick Returners and Punt Returners are a factor in Game Winning Drive. No other quick-play game covers all of the elements of football like Game Winning Drive.

While other quick-play games give you a final result, Game Winning Drive tells the “story” of the game. You’ll know precisely why a team wins or loses a contest. Also, unlike other quick playing games, Game Winning Drive adds many strategy elements to add to the realism and excitement of the game.

Do you go for it on 3rd down? Do you go for the 2 pt conversion for the win, or kick the PAT for a tie? Do you try for an onside kick, or hope that your defense can shut down the offense for one final drive? With Game Winning Drive, the decisions are yours. There isn’t another quick-playing football game in the market that allows your coaching decisions to impact the game.

While your decisions may impact the game, your players on the field will ultimately determine the success of your team over the course of a season. Game Winning Drive Football factors each team’s offensive and defensive strengths and weaknesses. Each team is rated for scoring, Rushing, Passing, Kicking, Punting, Fumbles and Interceptions on the offensive side. On the defensive side of the ball, each team is rated for Overall Defense, Rushing Defense, Passing Defense, Fumble recoveries, and Interceptions.

Rick, Phil, and I think you’ll find Game Winning Drive to be the most comprehensive quick-play football game on the market.

The 1972-73 WHA season was the first regular season of the now defunct World Hockey Association (WHA). Twelve teams played 78 games each.   1987-88 NHL Released
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of the 1987-88 National Hockey League season for BigBep Hockey.

Re-live the fun and excitement of the 1987-88 National Hockey League season. The yearbook includes every NHL team and all skaters.

Play out the 1988 season with the best hockey game on the planet!

This yearbook utilizes the "Tough Guy" chart and ratings. This addresses players with high penalty minutes and also adds another layer of strategy for solitaire and head-to-head coaching.

This season may be best known for the infamous confrontation between Devils coach Jim Schoenfeld and referee Don Koharski after Game 3 of the conference Finals, when, during an argument in the tunnel after the game, Koharski tripped and fell, accusing Schoenfield of pushing him. Schoenfield famously responded, "You tripped and fell you fat pig!" Then, he yelled "Have another doughnut! Have another doughnut!" The incident was played repeatedly on ESPN and has become part of NHL lore.

Schonefeld was suspended by NHL president John Ziegler for game four, but the Devils received an injunction from a New Jersey court, allowing Schoenfeld to coach the fourth game. In protest, the officials scheduled to work that game in the Meadlowlands refused to take the ice, forcing the NHL to scramble for amateur officials to call the contest. The injunction was lifted and Schoenfeld served his suspension during game five in the Boston Garden.

The BigBep Printed Yearbooks come in two formats; a printed team sheet offering, and individual die-cut cards. Both offerings are in vivid, professionally printed, full-color.

  1974 World Football League Released
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of the 1974 World Football League season for GridIron Wars.

Relive the fun and excitement of the World Football League and their inaugural season.

Playing a 20-game regular season schedule in 1974 - six games longer than the NFL's then 14-game season - the WFL staged no exhibition games (although its teams did participate in preseason scrimmages). The season was to begin on Wednesday, July 10th and ended on Wednesday, November 13th. This was a 20-game season in 19 weeks --- a schedule accomplished by having double games (primarily Monday and Friday) on Labor Day weekend. But some complained that the schedule was poorly drafted. For one thing, although most teams played on Wednesday nights, with a national TV game slated for Thursday nights, the Hawaiians played their home games on Sunday afternoons (meaning that when the Hawaiians had back-to-back home games, they played on a Sunday night, followed by their next opponent playing a Wednesday night game on the mainland, and then that opponent flying out to Honolulu to play the well-rested Hawaiians four nights later). In addition, back-to-back meetings between two teams, a no-no in the NFL by that time, were common, with the earliest set of back-to-back games being as early as July 24th and 31st (the third and fourth weeks of the season).

In the first few weeks, the WFL looked to be a resounding success. Attendance outpaced the first week of the old American Football League of 1960, averaging just under 43,000 a game. The box office numbers proved to be the beginning of the WFL's undoing. In Jacksonville, the Sharks admitted that 44,000 tickets were giveaways. The Philadelphia Bell whose first two home games totaled 120,000 fans, told the press that over 100,000 had been sold for almost nothing. Presumably the giveaways were intended in part to pique the public's curiosity and interest, but the attempt was unsuccessful. Six games into the first season, WFL franchises were in serious trouble. The Detroit Wheels were looking to move to Charlotte, North Carolina and the Florida Blazers made overtures of bringing the first place club to Atlanta.

By September, the barely one-year old league had bottomed out when two franchises relocated. The New York Stars relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina as the Charlotte Hornets, and the Houston Texans, the first WFL team to relocate in mid-season, moved to Shreveport, Louisiana as the Shreveport Steamer. In October, the league pulled the plug on the Detroit Wheels and the Jacksonville Sharks after 14 games. The folding of the Jacksonville franchise meant that the Gator Bowl would not host World Bowl I.

Despite the disasters, many thought the WFL performed fairly well, though below NFL standards. Many games were tight, decided by seven points or less, and the Action Point, the one-point mandatory conversion run attempt rather than the standard "PAT" (Point After Touchdown), was favored among WFL coaches and critics. The league championship - the World Bowl, or World Bowl I - was staged in Birmingham between the hometown Birmingham Americans and Florida Blazers. The Action Point proved to be the equalizer as the Americans won the championship by a single point, 22-21. The day after the World Bowl, the champions' uniforms were confiscated by sheriff's deputies.

Can you lead Memphis to the title? How about Florida? Or will Birmingham take it all as they did in real life?
