  2007 Wrestling Year Book Released
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of the 2007 Year Book for Ultra Quick Wresting.

The 2007 year book brings 156 new wrestlers into your Ultra Quick Universe. All of the major promotions are represented. All wrestlers are rated for the entire 2006 season.

The ratings are "normalized", so you can mix and match wrestlers from different promotions, and still have an "accurate" universe. I've accomplished this by weighting wins in the various promotions, as well as weighting wins by weight class.

The match-ups are endless!

The product comes in both E-Book and Printed format. The printed version can be purchased in "sheet" format, or individual, die-cut cards.

  2006 ECHL Year Book Released
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of the 2006 ECHL Year Book for BigBep Hockey.

This is our largest Year Book Offering yet!

The 2005-06 ECHL Season was the 18th season of the East Coast Hockey League. The season ran from late October, 2005 to early June, 2006. The league welcomed three new franchises in Stockton, CA (which had relocated from Atlantic City, NJ), Phoenix, AZ, and West Valley City, UT, but had to give voluntary suspensions status to the Texas Wildcatters and the Mississippi Sea Wolves due to damage caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The ECHL All-Star Game was held at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California and was hosted by the Fresno Falcons. The National Conference All-Stars defeated the American Conference All-Stars 7:6, with Fresno's Luke Curtin named Most Valuable Player.

While most leagues adopted the entire NHL rule change package for 2005-06 (based on the 2004-05 AHL rule changes), the ECHL kept the shootout at five players, and kept the automatic icing rule which has been used in the league.

The season yearbooks come in two printed formats, a printed team sheet offering, and individual die-cut cards. Both offerings are in vivid, professionally printed, full-color.

We also offer an E-Book option which is an instant download.

  Announcing the Baseball Card Game
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of The Baseball Card Game.

This game was designed primarily as an introductory game for younger players as a basis to get them excited about the world of tabletop sports board gaming. It’s not designed to be the final word in realism, as there are plenty of other game choices to fit that bill. The Baseball Card Game is meant to be a simple, fun to play game that doesn’t require much time to learn or to play for that matter!

Now, before you roll your eyes, and move on, thinking you've seen this product before, or feel it's too simplistic, please read further.

The idea for this game was the result of several different conversations I had this past year with other gamers as well as with my own children and their friends.

In my talks with other experienced sports board gamers, often times the conversation would turn back to our youth, and how we got more enjoyment out of the simple games of our youth, maybe even more so than the ultra-realistic complicated games we have at our disposal today. When “we” were children getting into the hobby was as simple as going to the local toy store or local department store. There were plenty of sports board games available at that time to introduce us to the concept and at least for me, a life long passion. That isn’t the case these days. A handful of companies have made attempts at hitting this market, but have failed miserably either due to poor marketing and availability such as Cadaco’s revival of All-Star Baseball. Or the games themselves were far too expensive and played horribly. (SportsClix Baseball and MLB Showdown come to mind.)

This brings me to the conversations I’ve had with the kids.

My own children are quite used to Dad’s paper and dice sports gaming world. And they’ve tried and played several of the major baseball games that have been available through the years. And while they’ve enjoyed some of them, most of the time, the complaints range from, “this game takes too long” to “Can’t you make my Little League Team so I can play with them”. Now, in most cases I could and did create the Little League Team. But, it really got me to thinking about some of the things I enjoyed about sports games when I was 9, 10 or 11 years old.

When I was that age, I could take my baseball cards, and a couple of generic baseball games I bought at the local 5 and dime and play for hours. If I wanted to play a game using my friends, my little league team, or heck, even the pro wrestlers I watched on TV, I could do that! (Dick the Bruiser was an amazing pitcher in the warped world of my youth)

Creating a generic baseball game though isn’t enough today. As I mentioned above, two of the mainstream Collectible card type games that have recently hit the market have failed miserably as they haven’t had good game play mechanics, and they really bear no resemblance to reality. Today’s kids that are involved in youth sports are a bit more sophisticated in their knowledge of the sport. Even the 9-year old kids I coach in baseball know when to sacrifice bunt, or know the concept of hit-and-run. So the challenge for me was to create a simple playing game, in which kids could rate their own players, but also bear resemblance to the actual game of baseball.

I think I have succeeded on all counts. In The Baseball Card Game, free-swinging power hitters, high-average no power hitters and everyone else in between are all “accurately” represented. I’ve also created a simple interface in which the pitcher on the mound makes a big difference. Control pitchers, Strike Out artists, and the mop-up man are also “accurately” represented in this game. Factors like Sacrifice Bunting, Hit and Run, Stealing Bases, and a player’s defensive ability are also factored into the game. This is MUCH more than just a simple little game. While the accuracy may not be to the 1000th of a degree, the game is strongly based upon reality and will provide you with a very accurate snapshot of each and every player.

Most importantly though, I’ve kept the rating system simple enough that any 8-year-old , should have no problem playing with any player they can dream up. I’ve kept the game based upon reality. But, it’s also scaleable to any level of play. You can play Professionals, Minor Leaguers, College, High-School or even Youth League games within the framework of this game.

And while I’ve stated the design intent was primarily for kids, The Baseball Card Game is also fun, and realistic enough for even the veteran sports board gamers. The Baseball Card Game is a great companion for business trips, plane rides or just unwinding at home.

** A portion of all proceeds go directly to the Pike County Youth Sports program **

As with all of the offerings from Downey Games, you can purchase the game in printed or E-Book format.

  1972 NFL Season Available
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of the 1972 season for Chris Davis' Inside Blitz Football.

Re-live the excitement of the 1972 Pro season with the Inside Blitz 1972 Pro Year Book. All 26 teams are accurately rated to replicate their real-life performances.

The 1972 NFL season was the 53rd regular season of the National Football League. The league decided to change the formula of computing the winning percentage of each team in the standings: Tie games, previously not counted, were made equal to a half-game won and a half-game loss.

The Miami Dolphins completed the first (and currently only) undefeated regular season and postseason record in NFL history when they beat the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII.

Can you lead Miami to the Super Bowl and an undefeated season? Or can you lead the Redskins, Packers, Steelers or Cowboys to an upset Super Bowl Victory?

The only way to find out is by ordering the 1972 Professional Year Book!

The Yearbook comes in printed form as well as E-Book format.

You can order either version through the Downey Games web site.

  1968 NHL Season Available
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of the 1967-68 NHL season for BigBep Hockey.

Re-live the fun and excitement of the 1967-68 National Hockey League season. The yearbook includes every NHL team and all skaters.

Play out the 1968 season with the best hockey game on the planet!

The 1967-68 NHL season was the 51st season of the National Hockey League. Twelve teams each played 74 games. This season saw the NHL expand from the "Original Six" teams by adding six new franchises. The St. Louis Blues, California Seals, Philadelphia Flyers, Minnesota North Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Los Angeles Kings were all put into the Western Division. On November 6, 1967,1 the California Seals were renamed Oakland Seals. This year also saw the addition of two new awards. With expansion came format change and with format change came a need for a new trophy for the winner of the newly formed West Division. The new trophy, called the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl, was for the winner of the West while the older trophy, the Prince of Wales, was for the winner of the East. The other new award was the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, which was named in honour of Bill Masterton who died on 15 January, 1968 after sustaining an injury during a game (the first time a NHL player had ever died directly as a result of an on-ice injury).

The St. Louis Blues made a series of the Stanley Cup finals although they lost in four straight games. Glenn Hall was sensational, especially in game three when the Blues were outshot 46 to 15. Wrote Red Burnett, the dean of hockey writers then: "A number of Hall's saves were seemingly impossible. Experts walked out of the Forum convinced no other goaltender had performed so brilliantly in a losing cause." In the overtime of game three, Hall made a spectacular save on Dick Duff and then, standing on his head, made another save. "It was a heartbreaker to see" said Burnett "After the saves on Duff, Bobby Rousseau came and batted home the second rebound." Hall's heroics won him the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs. But Montreal, like a champion, won the Stanley Cup in game four as J.C. Tremblay fired home the winning goal. When the game ended, the fans came on the ice to celebrate, and balloons, hats and programs were thrown from the stands. Jean Beliveau, in a cast and crutches from his broken ankle, with Ralph Backstrom accepted the Cup from NHL president Clarence Campbell and the players did a victory lap with the Cup.

Less than 30 minutes after the Canadiens won the Cup, Canadiens coach Toe Blake announced his retirement. He gave reason that it had been a hard season, but the real reason was that his wife was dying of cancer and he wanted to spent his time with her. The celebration turned to a mournful event with players paying tribute to Blake, many in tears.

Can you lead the Blues to a dramatic upset? Or can you guide the Canadiens to another Stanley Cup?

The printed season yearbooks come in two formats, a printed team sheet offering, or individual die-cut cards. Both offerings are in vivid, professionally printed, full-color.

We also offer an e-book version which is available for instant download.

You can purchase either version at the Downey Games web site.
