  1970's College All-Time Greats Released
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of College Football's best teams of the 1970's for GridIron Wars Football.

Find out which college football team of the 70's was the greatest with this set for GridIron Wars!

As many are going to ask, let me state right from the start, the team ratings are designed with strength of schedule and normalization built in. This keeps every team on an even playing field, which I think is important for All-Time Great sets. Most importantly though, each team will still keep their "personalities" which I also feel is important. The bottom line is that all of the teams are on an equal playing field, but they will still perform as you remember them.

The College All-Time Greats set also adds new solitaire play calling charts to accurately reflect the different styles of play in the college game, as well as a new Kick-Off chart and Penalty chart.

The college All-Time Greats printed version is printed in color on card stock and can be found here:
http://www.downeygames.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_2_83

The E-Book version can be found here:
http://www.downeygames.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=5_6_82

The 34 teams included in this set are:

1970 Nebraska
1970 Notre Dame
1970 Texas
1971 Alabama
1971 Nebraska
1971 Oklahoma
1972 Oklahoma

  1974 World Football League Released
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of the 1974 World Football League season for GridIron Wars.

Relive the fun and excitement of the World Football League and their inaugural season.

Playing a 20-game regular season schedule in 1974 - six games longer than the NFL's then 14-game season - the WFL staged no exhibition games (although its teams did participate in preseason scrimmages). The season was to begin on Wednesday, July 10th and ended on Wednesday, November 13th. This was a 20-game season in 19 weeks --- a schedule accomplished by having double games (primarily Monday and Friday) on Labor Day weekend. But some complained that the schedule was poorly drafted. For one thing, although most teams played on Wednesday nights, with a national TV game slated for Thursday nights, the Hawaiians played their home games on Sunday afternoons (meaning that when the Hawaiians had back-to-back home games, they played on a Sunday night, followed by their next opponent playing a Wednesday night game on the mainland, and then that opponent flying out to Honolulu to play the well-rested Hawaiians four nights later). In addition, back-to-back meetings between two teams, a no-no in the NFL by that time, were common, with the earliest set of back-to-back games being as early as July 24th and 31st (the third and fourth weeks of the season).

In the first few weeks, the WFL looked to be a resounding success. Attendance outpaced the first week of the old American Football League of 1960, averaging just under 43,000 a game. The box office numbers proved to be the beginning of the WFL's undoing. In Jacksonville, the Sharks admitted that 44,000 tickets were giveaways. The Philadelphia Bell whose first two home games totaled 120,000 fans, told the press that over 100,000 had been sold for almost nothing. Presumably the giveaways were intended in part to pique the public's curiosity and interest, but the attempt was unsuccessful. Six games into the first season, WFL franchises were in serious trouble. The Detroit Wheels were looking to move to Charlotte, North Carolina and the Florida Blazers made overtures of bringing the first place club to Atlanta.

By September, the barely one-year old league had bottomed out when two franchises relocated. The New York Stars relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina as the Charlotte Hornets, and the Houston Texans, the first WFL team to relocate in mid-season, moved to Shreveport, Louisiana as the Shreveport Steamer. In October, the league pulled the plug on the Detroit Wheels and the Jacksonville Sharks after 14 games. The folding of the Jacksonville franchise meant that the Gator Bowl would not host World Bowl I.

Despite the disasters, many thought the WFL performed fairly well, though below NFL standards. Many games were tight, decided by seven points or less, and the Action Point, the one-point mandatory conversion run attempt rather than the standard "PAT" (Point After Touchdown), was favored among WFL coaches and critics. The league championship - the World Bowl, or World Bowl I - was staged in Birmingham between the hometown Birmingham Americans and Florida Blazers. The Action Point proved to be the equalizer as the Americans won the championship by a single point, 22-21. The day after the World Bowl, the champions' uniforms were confiscated by sheriff's deputies.

Can you lead Memphis to the title? How about Florida? Or will Birmingham take it all as they did in real life?

Play out the 2007 season with the best hockey game on the planet!

The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) is a low-level professional ice hockey league with teams located in the southeastern United States.

The SPHL Rules & Regulations differ from the NHL and the previous seasons of SPHL play in the following areas:

* A team may dress sixteen regular players to a game. Two players dressed for the game will be goaltenders.
* No curvature of stick limitations as in the NHL, AHL, and ECHL.
* Shootouts are five players (as in the ECHL and AHL).
* All overtime periods in the regular season are between three skaters per team and the goaltender (3 on 3, compared to 4 on 4 in other leagues). Penalty rules differ during the overtime:
* During the first three minutes of overtime, in case of a penalty, the non-offending team is awarded one extra skater per penalty (up to five).
* In the final two minutes, any minor penalty results in an automatic penalty shot.
* No delay of game minor penalty if a skater intentionally shoots a puck into the stands. No line change by team clearing the puck.
* Goalies are permitted to play the puck anywhere on the ice surface.
* Adopted the NHL rule on icing no line change allowed by the team that ices the puck.
* Adopted the NHL rule regarding Hurry-up Face Off. A team is given 5 seconds from the time the referee drops his hand and blows the whistle to the time the puck is dropped.

1983 USFL Released for GridIron Wars
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of the 1983 USFL season for GridIron Wars.

Relive the fun and excitement of the upstart league, the USFL and their inaugural season.

The inaugural season of the United States Football League began on March 6 with five games, including the professional debut of 1982 Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker, who signed with the New Jersey Generals just weeks before the start of the season.

Prior to the signing of Herschel Walker by the New Jersey Generals, the USFL was being compared to the most recent previous challenger to the 63-year old National Football League, the WFL. While the 1983 season produced financial losses for all but one of the league's twelve teams, the USFL accomplished some things that the WFL had not: it had no teams fold during the season (as had been the case for the WFL's Jacksonville franchise), no teams moved in mid-season (the WFL had several), no teams declining to participate in its playoffs (as WFL's Boston/New York/Charlotte team had done). While there was plenty of red ink to go around in the league's income statements and a few owners wanted out, the losses were for the most part their own doing.

On the field people were surprised with the quality of play in the USFL's first season, particularly considering that the league opted to start its inaugural regular season without the benefit of any pre-season contests. After just one year, those who didn't simply reject the concept of the USFL out of hand were making comparisons - how would the champion Michigan Panthers, the Chicago Blitz or Philadelphia Stars fare if they were in the NFL? While the answer from most was that they'd be lower-tier teams competitively speaking, just having the discussion gave the USFL's on-field product greater credibility.&&

Can you lead Chicago to the title? How about Philadelphia with their defense? Or will Michigan take it all as they did in real life?

  1979-80 NHL Season Released
Downey Games is proud to announce the release of the 1979-80 National Hockey League season for BigBep Hockey.

Re-live the fun and excitement of the 1979-80 National Hockey League season. The yearbook includes every NHL team and all skaters.

Play out the 1980 season with the best hockey game on the planet!

The 1979-80 NHL season was the 63rd season of the National Hockey League. Twenty-one teams each played 80 games. This season saw the addition of four teams from the collapse of the World Hockey Association (WHA) the previous season as expansion franchises. The Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, New England Whalers (later renamed "Hartford Whalers" at the insistence of the Boston Bruins), and Quebec Nordiques joined the NHL bringing a new total of 21 teams. The other two WHA teams (Birmingham Bulls and Cincinnati Stingers) were paid to disband. The collapse of the WHA also saw the much hyped super-star rookie Wayne Gretzky come to the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers. Gretzky would tie Marcel Dionne for the scoring lead with 137 points and capture the Hart Trophy as the most valuable player while Dionne took home the Art Ross Trophy as the leading scorer by virtue of having scored two more goals.

The big story of the regular season was the record-breaking undefeated streak compiled by the Philadelphia Flyers. After starting the season with a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders and a 9-2 loss to the Atlanta Flames, the Flyers did not lose again for nearly three months, earning at least one point in every game between a 4-3 win over Toronto October 14, 1979 and a 4-2 win over Buffalo January 6, 1980, a span of 35 games. This stands as the longest undefeated streak in North American professional sports history.

Other Highlights from the season were:

- Nine of the 21 teams actually had 300+ goals.
- Nine players with 50 or more goals scored.
- The New York Islanders win the first of 4 consecutive Stanley Cups.

This yearbook utilizes the "Though Guy" chart and ratings. This addresses players with high penalty minutes and also adds another layer of strategy for solitaire and head-to-head coaching.

The BigBep Printed Yearbooks come in two formats; a printed team sheet offering, and individual die-cut cards. Both offerings are in vivid, professionally printed, full-color.
