I am putting together a 6-team league of great Dodgers teams of the past. The season started with the first of a three-game series between the 1977 and 2017 teams. Sutton vs. Kershaw.

I won't be doing regular write-ups but just occasional games.

No score through 6 innings. Through 6 the 77 team had just two hits, a single by Russell and a double by Cey. Kershaw had walked nobody and had fanned only four. Sutton gave up three hits over that span, all singles, one each by Puig, Grandal and Kershaw. Sutton also walked nobody but fanned seven.

In the top of the seventh, Russell doubled and was singled in by Smith. The 77 team led 1-0. The 2017 team answered with a run in the seventh. Puig's grounder to Lopes went through his legs for an error and he moved to second on Grandal's second single. With 2 outs, Forsythe singled to tie it.

In the eighth, Monday walked and two outs later, he surprised the 2017 team with a stolen base. Lopes doubled for a 2-1 lead. Sutton had been lifted for a pinch hitter that inning so Sosa came in for relief. He retired the 2017 side in order with a pair of strikeouts.

In the ninth, the 2017 squad lifted Kershaw and brought in Baez. With one out, Garvey blasted a solo homer to make it 3-1. That's the way it ended as knuckleballer Hough fanned Bellinger, walked Puig, struck out Grandal and then retired Pederson on a routine grounder to Lopes.

Great fun as always.

Nothing against hockey and wrestling, but nice to see a baseball report here on Opening Day!
