I didn't read the entire thread, but how do you get the power play stats? I don't recall that being part of the game.

Hi Rick ! You are correct, Sir ! The Power Play stats were a little wrinkle that I added to enhance my enjoyment of the game. My first UQ replay was the 1977-78 season, so I'll use that as an example.

First I determine how many (if any) of the goals that a team scores in a game were Power Play goals. The 1977-78 NHL UQ Set tells us that Guy Lafleur scores on a roll between 1 - 166. I broke it down a little further by differentiating if the goal is Even Strength, Power Play or Short Handed. For Lafleur, a roll of 1 - 153 would result in an Even Strength goal and 154 - 166 would be a Power Play goal. (Lafleur had no Short Handed goals during the season). Once I determine how many Power Play goals were scored in the game using this method, I then consult a Power Play Opportunities Per Game chart that I created for each team.

For example, the Montreal Canadiens had 229 Power Play opportunities for the season. Divide that by 80 and it comes out to an average of 2.86 Power Plays per game. Multiply 2.86 X D20 = a total of 57 values for their chart. Based on all that, I created the following Power Play Opportunities Per game chart for the Canadiens:

Die Roll - Value

01 - 0
02 - 1
03 - 1
04 - 1
05 - 2
06 - 2
07 - 2
08 - 2
09 - 2
10 - 3
11 - 3
12 - 3
13 - 3
14 - 4
15 - 4
16 - 4
17 - 4
18 - 5
19 - 5
20 - 6

I roll a D20 and consult the corresponding number in the left column of the chart. If I rolled an "18" for example, then the Canadiens would have 5 Power Play opportunities for the game. Hopefully over the course of an 80 game season, it will average out to 2.86 opportunities per game.

Of course, the roll has to be equal to or greater than the number of Power Play goals that the Canadiens actually scored in the game. If Montreal scored 3 Power Play goals for example, then my D20 roll has to be a "10" or higher so you might have to roll again to get a value that falls in that range.

Hope that helps !

George
