Game 54

Philadelphia 76ers @ Buffalo Braves
Buffalo Memorial Auditorium
January 30, 1973

It's said that good things come in threes and for the Sixers that turned out to be true. Philadelphia traveled to The City of Light and gained their second straight victory over Buffalo, this one by 13 points, 120-107, and their third straight win overall, giving them 9 on the season. Management, players, and fans of the Braves can be forgiven if they're heard muttering one of the great lines from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

The Sixers had five in double figures including a couple with 20+. Fred Carter led the scoring with 25 points, followed closely by Tom Van Arsdale who added 24. Jeff Halliburton and Leroy Ellis each netted 17, with Manny Leaks claiming 12 to round out the double figure scorers. Dale Schlueter just missed joing that group as he put up 9 points. John Trapp notched 7, Freddie Boyd 6, and Dave Sorenson 3 to complete the total in the scorebook. The equipment manager will be placing Mike Price's name on the egg.

Buffalo also had five in double digits, with a sixth near miss, as well as also having two with 20+. However, they only used 7 players in the game, leading you to wonder if perhaps fatigue played a role in the outcome. Bob Kauffman topped the scoring column as he hit for 26 points, with Elmore Smith a bucket behind at 24. Bob McAdoo improved greatly on his previous game's performance as he nailed his real life 18.0 PPG on the number. The balance of the scoring was filled in by Randy Smith with 15 points, Dave Wohl 13, John Hummer 9, and Howard Komives 2.

Next Game:
1/31/73 vs Golden State at The Spectrum. The Sixers are 0-2 against the Warriors this season.

actual result:
Philadelphia - 104
Buffalo - 105

Philadelphia record:
actual (4-50)
replay (9-45)
