Webb Simpson shocked the golf world (or at least that part of it that takes place on my table) coming from 5 strokes down going into the final round to win The Open Championship by one stroke ahead of Robert Streb and Brendon Todd.

There was plenty of excitement in the anticipation of this final round. Todd led the field after 3 rounds at -11, one stroke ahead of Streb and Sergio Garcia. However, everyone was anxious to see how Jason Day would do. Day had already won my Masters and US Open tournaments and was looking to put another notch in his majors' belt. After 3 rounds, Day remained in contention with a -7, 4 strokes off the lead. But 10 other golfers had scores equal to or better than Day, so it would take a minor miracle for him to pull off a win.

For his part, Simpson entered the day at -6 with 5 other golfers. So, he was one of 15 golfers within 5 strokes of the lead.

Simpson's playing partner for the day, Louis Oosthuizen, had a great day on the fairways, hitting several approach shots leaving him easy birdie putts. He finished at -6 on the day and -12 overall. Simpson, however, bested him with a big day on the Old Course's par 4 holes. Simpson parlayed several birdies and an amazing eagle to finish -8 on the day and -14 for the tournament.

Eleven golfers remained on the course after Simpson finished, including Day. Unfortunately for Day, he played poorly on the course's par 3 holes, missing some opportunities, and finished with a -2 for the round and -9 overall. Garcia imploded with a round-worst 77 (+5) for the day. Robert Streb had a decent outing with a -3, but that score left him one stroke shy of the lead and Simpson took home the trophy.

Final Leaderboard

Webb Simpson -14
Robert Streb -13
Brendon Todd -13
Louis Oosthuizen -12
Dustin Johnson -11
Ryan Palmer -11
John Senden -10
Jordan Spieth -10
Zach Johnson -10
Jason Day -9
Rickie Fowler -9
Billy Horschel -9
