Game#1 at Comiskey Park Oct 1st 1959. Real score was White Sox 11 Dodgers 0. My replay was a much closer game with the White Sox still winning 3-2. Roger Craig vs Early Wynn. LAD scored first in the 2nd on 2 walks and then Ted Kluszewski let a ball sneak by him to allow Norm Larker to score on the error. In the bottom of the 7th, Billy Goodman singled to RF, next batter Al Smith reached base on an error by Gil Hodges. Both runners were then driven home by Jim Rivera's triple into RF. 2-1 White Sox. Still in the bottom of the 7th, Roger Craig would get the next batter out on a 5-3 ground out (holding Rivera at third) but then Nellie Fox would single to CF scoring Rivera. White Sox 3-1. Craig would leave the game at that point and Churn would come in and strikeout Jim Landis to end the inning. The 8th inning was scoreless with Clem Labine coming into pitch for LAD. Gerry Staley would pitch the 9th for Chicago. Two quick outs and appeared the Sox would hold onto game #1. However, R. Fairly came into pinch hit for Norm Larker and quickly doubled to RF. Don Demeter came into pinch run for Fairly. Maury Wills hits a grounder to Luis Aparicio who misplays the ball and Wills ends up on second base (2BE6) and Demeter scores. 3-2 Sox. Carl Furillo comes into PH with Wills on second (tying run) but Staley gets him to fly out to Jim Landis to end game one. A much closer and exciting game than the original with the White Sox taking a 1-0 lead into game #2.

Teams R H E
LAD 2 5 1
CWS 3 5 2
WP E. Wynn (1-0) SAVE (1) G. Staley
LP R. Craig (0-1) Relief pitchers used: C. Churn and C. Labine

Game#2 at Comiskey Park Oct 2nd 1959. Real score was Dodgers 4 White Sox 3. My replay was Dodgers 5 White Sox 3. I had the exact pitchers used pitch the exact innings to mirror the actual game. The Dodgers scored in the first on a single by Junior Gilliam, he went to second on a balk by Bob Shaw and then scored on a long single to RF by Duke Snider. The White Sox immediately came back with three runs in the second with a single by Ted Kluszewski, followed by a FC by Sherm Lollar but Charlie Neal could not turn the DP and threw wildly for an error and Lollar took 2nd. Next batter, Al Smith tripled and Lollar scored. Bubba Phillips then doubled to score Smith. Next batter Jim McAnany singled in Phillips and the White Sox took the lead 3 to 1. The Dodgers scored 3 in the top of the third on a single, triple by Charlie Neal and then Duke powered one over the wall. Dodgers now lead 4 to 3. The Dodgers would add another run in the fourth to win the game 5 to 3 and even up the series at 1 game apiece.

Teams R H E
LAD 5 10 2
CWS 3 9 0
WP J. Podres (1-0) SAVE (1) L. Sherry
LP B. Shaw (0-1)

Game#3 at LA Memorial Coliseum October 4, 1959. Actual score LAD 3 CWS 1. This was a replay game full of twists and turns. It took 10 innings before the White Sox could claim the lead on a Lollar HR with Kluszewski on base, White Sox then lead 4-2 and G. Staley shut down the Dodgers in the last of the 10th to gain the series lead 2 games to 1. Kluszewski was 5-5, 2 2B's. Donovan was the starter for the White Sox and went 8 IP allowing only two hits, one a HR to LF by Charlie Neal. Drysdale pitched 8 also giving up 8 hits,1 ER, and striking out 10 batters. I rolled two trapped off plays , one scoring a run for the Sox. Really an exciting game!

Teams R H E
CWS 4 11 1
LAD 2 3 1
WP G. Staley (1-0)
LP L. Sherry (0-1)

Game#4 at LA Memorial Coliseum October 5, 1959. Actual score LAD 5 CWS 4. Another low scoring game. The White Sox take a 3 games to 1 lead with a 1-0 victory behind E. Wynn's 3 hit shutout, Wynn now 2-0 for the series. G. Staley picked up the save. R. Craig (0-2) pitched 7 innings giving only 3 hits up. An unearned run by the White Sox was scored in the 3rd on a 2BE by Wills. Aparicio on an attempted steal was safe when Wills (again) dropped the throw from Roseboro. Koufax pitched 2 innings of relief and walked 3 and struck out 1 batter.

Game#5 at LA Memorial Coliseum October 6, 1959. Actual score CWS 1 LAD 0. In this replay the White Sox win the World Series with a 4 to 1 victory! Bob Shaw was dominant pitching 8 innings giving up only 3 hits, a double by Charlie Neal drove in the only Dodger run. Luis Aparicio's 3-run HR in the 5th provided all the runs the Sox would need. Koufax started and lasted 5 2/3 innings, then being replaced by Stan Williams. In the 7th, Williams got the first two outs and then gave up two singles back to back and then walked the next batter. Roseboro came out to settle Williams down but it did not work and Williams walked another batter. Sox add another run to make it 4-1. Roseboro used his last conference call and that worked as Williams struck out Kluszewski to end the inning. No errors in this final game and two SB's by Aparicio and Charlie Neal for LAD.

Teams R H E
CWS 4 7 0
LAD 1 5 0
WP B. Shaw (1-1) Save(1) D. Donovan
LP S. Koufax (0-1)

Nice write up of an interesting pairing of teams. I've replayed this WS countless times over the past fifty years and always experienced a very competitive series between the 1959 Sox and Dodgers.

The thing I always found amazing was that Big Klu wasn't hitting homers with the Pirates that year but really caught fire after the Sox traded Suitcase Simpson to get him late in the season.

He only knocked it out of the park four times during the regular season but hit three round trippers in the Series that year!
