I don't have the patience for a hole by hole match play, but I am not excited by the fast play method results sometimes. When I post my WGC-Accenture Match Play results, I am only posting winners and losers.

The hole by hole method does look good, though. Maybe next replay will do a hybrid, fast play till I get to a final 8.

I would encourage you to give the Hole by Hole version a try. For me, it's by far my favorite way to play POTG. I think you have a good idea in trying a small number of golfers on the first go round with it.

Help me with terms, please:

2 UP means the lead was 1 going into the 18th hole, and the leader then wins that hole.

2 and 1 means the leader has won 2 more holes than his opponent, and there is only one hole left, meaning there is no point to playing 18?

You are correct on both. If a player is 1Up going into the 18th Hole, and then wins the 18th Hole, they win the Match 2Up.

In addition to 2&1 you will see scores like 3&2, 4&3, etc. They all mean that the golfer is up by 1 more Hole than there is left to play so his opponent cannot catch up, making the remaining Holes unnecessary to determine a winner.

You may also see scores like 3&1, 4&2, etc. In the case of 3&1 for example, it means that the golfer was up by 2 after 16 Holes so the Match had to continue. The golfer in the lead then also won the 17th Hole, making them 3Up with 1 Hole left to play.

Thanks for following the Matches !

Round 3 - Match 13

Vijay Singh - v - Gary Player

Player takes #1 & #3, with the 2nd getting Halved, and after 3 Holes Player is 2Up. The 4th Hole is Halved and then Singh returns the favor to Player by taking 2 out of the next 3, the 5th & 7th, with #6 getting Halved, to Square the Match. Player quickly goes 2Up again by winning #'s 8 & 9. The 10th is Halved and Singh then cuts Player's lead to 1 by claiming #11. The next 3 Holes are Halved and after 14 have been played, Player is still 1Up. Singh takes #15 to Square the Match with 3 Holes left to play. The 16th Hole is Halved. Singh takes his first lead of the Match by winning the 17th and he's 1Up with just 1 Hole left. Player sends the Match into extra Holes as he takes #18 to pull even with Singh. The 1st extra Hole is the only extra Hole as Singh takes it, to claim the Match, 1Up.

Vijay Singh advances to the Final where he'll face the winner of the Match between Ken Venturi and Ben Crenshaw.

Round 3 - Match 14

Ken Venturi - v - Ben Crenshaw

Venturi takes #1, the 2nd Hole is Halved, Crenshaw takes #3. The Match stays Square after the next 2 Holes as Venturi claims #4 and Crenshaw wins #5. The 6th Hole is Halved and then the back and forth continues as Venturi takes #7 with Crenshaw taking #8 to Square the Match once again. The next 3 Holes look like the previous 3. The 9th Hole is Halved, Venturi wins #10 with Crenshaw winning #11 to Square the Match yet again. The next 3 Holes look like the previous 3, but different. The 12th Hole is Halved and then Crenshaw takes his first lead of the Match by claiming #13. The lead doesn't last for long as Venturi wins #14 to Square the Match for the fifth time since play started. Crenshaw then takes his second lead of the Match by winning #15. The 16th Hole is Halved and Venturi Squares the Match for the sixth time by taking #17. The 18th Hole is Halved meaning that this 2nd Semi-final Match will also go to extra Holes. The 1st extra Hole is Halved. Crenshaw ends things by taking the 2nd extra Hole and claiming the Match, 1Up.

Ben Crenshaw will face Vijay Singh in the Final.

I can't see Vijay losing this one, but you never know. Crenshaw doesn't seem to realize his card isn't that great!

Singh has about twice as many professional wins (all types) than Crenshaw, and has 3 Majors to Crenshaw's 2. I think multiple wins in Majors will always do wonders for a reputation.

Please read on to see how your pick turned out !

Final - Match 15

Vijay Singh - v - Ben Crenshaw

The first 2 Holes of the Match are Halved. Singh grabs the early lead by taking Hole #3. Crenshaw switches the lead to his scorecard as he takes #'s 4 & 5 to go 1Up. Crenshaw takes #9, Singh takes #10, and with 8 Holes left the Match is All Square. As it turns out, all of the remaining 8 Holes aren't needed. Crenshaw takes charge of the Match by winning the next 3 in a row to go 3Up after 13 Holes. The 14th Hole is Halved and time is quickly running out for Singh. The next Hole is the last as Crenshaw takes #15 to claim the Match, 4&3, and with it the ATG One & Done Tournament victory.

Thanks Dave. I was hoping for a closer Final, maybe something like the 2 Semi-finals, but the dice decided to knock off early after working overtime in the previous 2 Matches <G>.
