So the Auburn team in the 2013 set has a fumble return of #-#? What should the number range be?

There really is not an error in the ratings at least. Auburn had no fumble returns for a touchdown. So, it should be blank. Looks like we missed clearing out the rating, which is why there is a # on the team card.

I am sorry to contadict this but Auburn and one fumble recovery for a touchdown, and the rating as far as I am concerned should be 11-16.

Phil I looked at college football reference.com and they did not show any fumble return TDS for Auburn for 2013

Yes that's true and it is also the problem with some sites as they only list fumble returns.
On the official Auburn site, the 2013 stats list DB Chris Davis with a fumble recovery for a TD. see below.

FUMBLE RETURNS No. Yds Avg TD Long
--------------------------------------------
Jermaine Whitehead 1 11 11.0 0 11
Chris Davis 0 0 0.0 1 0
Total.......... 1 11 11.0 1 11
Opponents...... 3 35 11.7 1 24

As you can see, Davis isn't credited with yardage. This means that he either recovered the football in the end zone or received a lateral on a fumble return and went for a td.

Either way, Auburn scored a Fumble TD return.

The TD is most likely from the Iron Bowl--Chris Davis' famous 109-yard return of a missed field goal on the last play of the game. The Auburn stats person probably wanted to credit Davis with a TD, but didn't know where to put it.

Ok I remember the play. So curious would that particular play be treated as a fumble return or would a kickoff return or punt ret make more sense. It was a weird play a long field goal was short and Auburn had there return man back in case and he caught it and took it the length of the field.

I think the NCAA classifies plays like this as "Miscellaneous Yards."

The Auburn announcers got a little excited:

Thanks Dave for clarifying the origin of the play.
I should have remembered as I did watch the game at the time. However, it is difficult to reconcile every stats number with a particular play, especially if you are rating a less exposed college you are not familiar with. This is why I would use any TD listed on the official stats as coming from the category headlined.
So in Auburn's case we can say that the rating for Fumble return is: none or 11-16. Personally I would use 11-16 but I leave the choice to users.
Phil.
