NFL Playoffs

Semi-Finals
Dallas extended their winning streak to nine games over the regular season winners in Pittsburgh with a final score of 31-24. Tony Dorsett returned to the Cowboys line up after missing last weeks game with 86 yards rushing and a touchdown. Also putting points on the board was Ron Springs and Robert Newhouse. Staubach found Jay Saldi open in the end zone for a 2 yard TD late in the fourth quarter. The Steelers Terry Bradshaw threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns and Rocky Bleier scored from the four. Dallas ran out the clock the final 5 minutes in the game to have a shot at their NFL title in three years.

The Hawaiians traveled to Miami in a repeat of last year’s semi-final. Just like last year the Hawaiians dashed the championship dream of the Dolphins winning 16-14. The only Hawaiian TD came on a 36 yard TD pass from Sonny Sixkiller to Kim Featsent in the first quarter. All of the Hawaiian points for the second half came from the foot of R. A. Coppedge who added three field goals, his longest a 28 yarder. For the Dolphins went to the locker room with a 14-7 lead. Duriel Harris caught 7 yard pass from Bob Griese and Larry Csonka scored from the 1 yard line. The Dolphins were unable to score in the second half.

NFL Championship

HAWAIIANS DEFEAT COWBOYS
WIN NFL CHAMPIONSHIP!
In a rematch from last season the Hawaiians were in Dallas for the championship. Dallas’ slow start and the streak that got them back to the championship game was the talk of the media. The Hawwiians, had been on the mainland since the end of the regular season and was adjusted to the time change and the usaul lack of attention from the mainland media.

The Hawaiians scored first on a 77 yard drive to begin the game. The score came on a Clayton Heath three yard TD run. In the second quarter Rafael Septien kicked a 32 yard field goal to put the Cowboys on the board trailing 7-3. The second half opened and the Cowboys were moving the ball when the Hawaiians recovered a Ron Springs and six plays later Sonny Sixkiller found a wide open John Kelesy in the end zone for a 16 yard TD pass. The Cowboys had to settle for another Spetien field goal later in the third quarter. In the fourth the Hawaiians scored again this, Sixkiller hit WR Tim Delaney with a 21 yard TD pass, the last score of the game. Final score Hawaiians 21 Cowboys 7 MVP – Sonny Sixkiller. AFL and WFL Results and Notes
Thanks to DaveP for telling me how to put my spreadsheet in the post.

We had some retirements during the summer:
Roger Stabauch Dallas
Norm Bulaich Miami
Larry Csonka Miami
O.J Simpson San Francisco
Mike Livingston Kansas City
Bill Munson Buffalo
Don Horn Portland
Ed Marshall Memphis Grizzles
Cyril Pinder Chicgo Fire

The new Dallas QB is Glen Carano and in Portland the new QB is Rick Leach.

Also the WFL added a team, the Phoenix Firebirds and plan to expaned again next year. In the news there is a rumor the Grizzles Danny White's personal services contract with owner John Bassett expires at the end of the season and Dallas has approached the Grizzles for a trade.

The Universe has most likely ended its evolution. Each team in the NFL plays the other teams once, no concerns about balance in home/away games. Some will have 8 the others 7. Same with the AFL and WFL. In the NFL the top five playoff with the number 1 team getting the bye. In the AFL and WFL the team with the best record wins the championship and is promoted to the next league automatically. The last place teams in the NFL and AFL demote at season's end and the next three play the top three in the upper division for promotion.

Here is the last of the 70's.

Nest up...back to 1980!
