a quick check of the 2000 all decade pro teams, and the QB sack ratings of all teams seem to be higher when the defensive team is in run defense, example the 2001 Steelers.

normal defense 1-4
pass defense 1-3
run defense 1-7

using this example the Steelers have a better chance to sack the other teams QB in run defense then in pass defense. that just doesnt seem right, can someone tell me what I am missing here. this appears to be the case with all teams I looked at.

Also the sack adj on some QB's would lower the defensive teams QB Sack rating to 0 or -1 , in which case for now we leave at 1 so the defensive team always has a t least 1 chance to sack the QB

thank you, Cliff M

This is a carryover from the original game, and I had to keep it this way for the new ratings to still be compatible with the old.

The original game considered the "RUN" defense in the new game to be a 5-man line. In later editions it also worked as a "blitz" type defense, but still kept the 5-man line designation.

So in real world terms with the new game, the NORMAL defense is your "go-to" defense in terms of balance. The "PASS" defense is more of a zone coverage and the "RUSH" defense is designed to stop the run, but also used as a blitz defense.

I strongly considered changing things up, but when tackling a "restoration" project like this, I always try not to reinvent the wheel. In terms of game play, the numbers will work out. But, I agree with you it does look odd.

I understand what you are saying but, it looks like a carry over from the old APBA football rules, and when an offense sets up the defense with runs to go for the pass and you catch them in a run defense you dont expect the pass rush to be twice as effective then it would be in a pass defense.

I have been toying with, flipping the run and pass defense's QB sack ratings and leaving the normal defense ratings alone.

Also when the offense's sack adj ratings drop the defense QB sack rating to 0 or even below. we go with a rating of 1, with an extra FAC flip 1-16 resulting in no QB sack and 17-32 giving the defense a sack, so the defense always has a chance for a QB sack even if its a small one
