NWA Wrestling (1947-1956) on the DuMont Network
Chicago T.V. @ WBBM TV Studios
Promoter:Fred Kohler
T.V.Announcer:Russ Davis
Referee:Pat Murphy & Harry Berz

Johnny Valentine b Bad Boy Joe @3:21. Pre-Match-Bad Boy Joe attacks Valentine (-100) as he is handing his ring attire to the ring attendant. But it really did not matter as Valentine made short work of Joe with the Brainbuster.

Fred Atkins b Yukon Eric @7:33. Pre-Match-Yukon Eric Gets the jump on Atkins (-100 points) when he attacks him as he is climbing through the ring ropes. But Atkins would have the last laugh as Referee Pat Murphy disqualified Eric for not breaking his choke hold on Atkins.

Wrestlers Time Out Segment W/Russ Davis

Russ Davis Interviewing Nature Boy Buddy Rogers: Rogers lets the T.V. Studio Audience know that he is here for one thing and that's to defeat anyone that stands in his way of winning the NWA Gold Strap.

Handsome Johnny Barend b Don McIntyre @10:35. Pre-Match McIntyre has (+100 points) added his total when he receives a good hand from the crowd. McIntyre is pumped up for his match but it was all for naught as Referee Murphy would miss the handful of tights The Handsome One had on McIntyre to score the pin fall.

T.V. Tournament Match for the vacant NWA H.W. Championship Belt

Antonino Rocca b Killer Kowalski @14:52. Rocca Pins Kowalski after Kowalski was dropkicked into the corner turnbuckle and into the waiting Rocca's Roll up pin.

Antonino Rocca Took a Big Step Towards The Nwa Championship Belt When He Defeated Killer Kowalski

An up & coming Houston Harris-(Bobo Brazil) & The Mighty Atlas Battled to the 15 Minute T.V. Time Limit Draw. Pre-Match- Harris loses (-50 points) because the fans were indifferent towards this new unknown wrestler. This would be a big factor in the outcome of the match.

Great Stuff. The early TV wrestling set the base for everything we have today. Cowboy Bill Watts later referred to it as Old School meaning it was no nonsense. I don't quite agree with him because I remember the wrestling and it had as many unusual characters as today's wrestling. Cowboys, Indians, Germans, Japanese, etc. all knew how to play the fans.

Antonio Rocca, Chief Don Eagle and Mr. Moto were the most famous wrestlers in our area where my grandfather would take us to the matches that were staged on the 1st floor of a local mill. Our personal favorite was Leaping Lou who was actually Lou Albano. He was also the 1st wrestler I saw change his persona. He went from a beloved local Face to a hated Heel changing his name to The Mauler. The local fans never forgave him. He even had a patch on his eye to make him look mean.

Thanks for sharing. I think we all look forewad to more cards.

Frank

Hi Frank Great Stories. Glad You are following along. You did a fantastic job with these sets. I Bought this one the awa & the florida/Georgia set as well. Plus I have the wwwf 1973 & the wwf 1985 set. Frank I did notice a few big names were missing from the golden age wrestlers set from that time period. Any chance of an update for this set in the future.

Thanks Again Alan

Crusher Lisowski b Ray Zills @2:21. Pre-Match- Crusher Lisowski (-100 Points) one of the most hated wrestlers here in Chicago was booed mercilessly as he entered the ring to face Ray Zills. The Crusher showed no mercy against Ray Zills and ended the match fast with his Bolo Punch

Hans Schmidt b Ronnie Etchinson @9:57. Pre-Match- Etchinson is cheered during his ring entrance and is so pumped up for his match that he has (+100 points) added to his total. But it still would not be enough to beat the german terror as Schmidt applied the Swinging Neckbreaker for the win. Post Match- A Masked wrestler enters the ring and begins to pummell Hans Schmidt from behind. As fast as the Masked man Appeared he disappeared just as fast. No one was sure what to make of this. We will see if we can get a further update on this latest turn of events on next weeks show.

T.V. Tournament Match for the vacant NWA H.W. Championship Belt

Nature Boy Buddy Rogers b Whipper Billy Watson @12:00.
The Nature Boy Buddy Rogers made good on his promise from last weeks interview when he finished of Whipper Billy Watson with the Neckbreaker. Post-Match- Rogers Continued to pound on a injured Watson until Edouard Carpentier Jumped into the ring just as Rogers Exits.

With just a little time left in the broadcast, Russ Davis is interviewing Antonino Rocca and asking him about his big win last week against Killer Kowalski. Rocca is ambushed by Kowalski from behind. Rocca appears to be badly hurt as the T.V. Show leaves the air......

Everytime Atlas would throw Larson outside the ring, either Curtis or Lewin would get in a cheap shot. Atlas finally put an end to the match applying his dreaded Atlas Lock for the submission win.

In a strange interview segment, Atlas tells the studio audience how his handsome looking tag team will go straight to the top and become the new NWA tag team champions currently being held by the Golden Greek's Chris & John Tolos. Also during the interview Atlas will not allow either Lewin nor Curtis to speak & keeps referring to them as movie stars. Davis ends the interview not sure what to make of it.

Johnny Valentine Defeated Kurt Von Stroheim @10:35. Pre-Match- Von Stroheim is escorted to the ring by Hans Schmidt. Referee Harry Berz orders Schmidt back to the dressing room. Valentine Wiggles away from Schmidt's hold at the last second as Von Stroheim inadvertently hits Schmidt by mistake. Valentine throws Schmidt over the top rope & pins a stunned Von Stroheim for the win.
