hi,

I had a general play question about gridiron wars. When you are playing solitaire and use the solitaire charts if you say choose a pass defense and then the play is a run is there a modification for choosing a pass defense on a run play? Plu vice a versa. You. Chose a run defense vs a pass offense being called? I guess I need some clarification on the solitaire charts.

Hey Walter,

If you're using the standard solitaire charts, pass defense vs. run will increase the modified rushing grades by 2 (meaning the defense's Rush D rating will also be factored in).

The run defense is only a "key" on a particular rusher, no change to the passing ratings.

I haven't used these charts in awhile, so if I'm misinterpreting them, someone out there in tabletopland can chime in.

hi,

Thanks Dave for the response. Is the key on running back more for head to head play versus solitaire?

Keying on a rusher works fine for solo play, as long as you're using the range numbers to determine who gets the ball. Non-keyed rushers have their grades increased by 2, so teams that aren't dependent on a single rusher will have an advantage.

I play the "Key" defense as a general run key defense. In other words, no matter which rusher carries the ball, the defense is assumed to be keying on him and his rating is reduced by 2.
