Hidy, gang, it's time for this year's tournament! Same great format--twelve teams using all ten FBS conference champs, plus two at-large spots.
Here are this year's seeds and first-round matchups (as always, the number following the # is the AP rank, and the number in parentheses is the tourney seed, based on the CFP rankings):

#1 Clemson (1)--bye
#2 Oklahoma (2)--bye
#3 Georgia (3)--bye
#4 Alabama (4)--bye
Troy (12) at #5 Ohio State (5)
Toledo (10) at #8 USC (7)
#25 Boise State (9) at #10 UCF (8)
FAU (11) at #6 Wisconsin (6)

I've been kinda busy since arriving in Mexico for my vacation, but I will post more results from this soon--hopefully within the next few days. Thanks for your patience--not that you had much choice. Smile

--OK, so here are the semifinal results:

--Sugar Bowl (national semifinal): #10 UCF (8) scores another upset, as the Knights knock off #4 Alabama (4) 28-21. Crimson Tide had a chance in the last two minutes but couldn't pull off the comeback.
--Rose Bowl (national semifinal): #3 Georgia (3) is assured of practically a home game to vie for the national championship, as the Bulldogs defeat #2 Oklahoma (2) 34-20.
--Orange Bowl (consolation bracket): #1 Clemson (1) defeats #5 Ohio State (5) 28-23.
--Fiesta Bowl (consolation bracket): #6 Wisconsin (6) takes care of #8 USC (7) 26-7.

--So this leaves us with the CFP NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: #3 Georgia (3) vs. #10 UCF (8). Can the Knights pull off one more upset?

--CFP National Championship result:

--No, they couldn't. #3 Georgia (3) takes advantage of the almost-home-field advantage and defeats #10 UCF (8) 36-17.

--The Georgia Bulldogs are the 2017 CFP Playoff National Champions!

--Thanks for following along. Just looking at my notebook records going back to 2009, even though there are usually upsets in this tournament, the national champion in my tourneys going back to 2009 has always been no lower than the #3 team in the final AP regular season poll. At least so far.

--I used my own very basic ratings (based on the AP poll) with Kimbo's d6 chart for Quick Play Football, and combined that with the two-minute charts from Soren Narnia's Highlight Maker Football.
--I call this combination Super Basic Quick Play Highlight Maker Football, or SBQPHM Football for short. A fun way to quick-sim a college football game.

--Thanks for following along.

Another great tournament Marty! Maybe one day a tournament format like yours can become a reality.
