I have a copy of APBA Pro Boxing but have never played it and I notice that nothing is mentioned about it here at Tabletop-Sports. Is it a poor simulation or just what is up with it. I did notice that the one card I was hoping to find in the game, Jack Johnson, was nowhere to be found![/b]

Hi David,

It's the Title Bout production in an APBA wrapper I'm pretty sure. I still have the computer version which will play under Windows 98. The Trunzo brothers I think produced this for APBA.

I used to have a copy and like you, never played it. I was much younger of course and lacked the discipline to learn it. I eventually sold it and made my money back. You can still get about $ 5- $ 80 for it on e bay.

I honestly believe that the Legends of Boxing game may be the best reproduced sport into a board game. Very realistic and fun to play. Give it a try.

Hello David, welcome to the site!

APBA Boxing is definitely not a poor simulation. It's a modified version of Title Bout, as the creators, the Trunzo Brothers, designed both games.

I actually think they did some really neat things with the APBA version. However, the product was released in a "bumpy" time for APBA as a company, and I honestly don't believe that the put much marketing behind the game.

I also think another "negative" for the game was the limited roster. Since the market at the time was comprised of folks that had already seen or played Title Bout, there wasn't enough of a roster there to convert them from Title Bout.

Hi, Jeff! Thanks for the additional APBA Pro Boxing info. I am basically an APBA baseball fan but there's just something about a good boxing game that is very enjoyable. Maybe it's the "one-on-one" idea of just too guys battling it out. My first boxing game was something called Realistic Pro Boxing from Big League Game Co. You used to see their ads in sports magazines years ago (I might be giving away my age here!). It was kind of a primitive game; I remember you could knock Henry Cooper down a zillion times but you couldn't knock him out! Another game that was enjoyable was the Truco Boxing Game that had Fast Action Cards instead of dice. I think that Statis-Pro eventually published this. My interest in Boxing goes back to the great heavyweight champs of the past; Johnson, Jeffries, Dempsey, etc. Again, thanks for the info. I'll be checking out a couple of games mentioned above and probably will dig out the APBA one as well. Regards -Dave

While checking out boxing game don't forget Jeff's Main Event. Because of the dpeth of the roster I find myself playing it more than any other boxing games.

If anyone wants to part with their copy of APBA Boxing, I would pay fair money to take it off their hands. I used to have it but accidentally left it in a vehicle I traded and didn't realize it until it was way too late.
