I've found the Turnover Return rating in Gridiron Wars to be very important. A team with an "A" rating is often likely to turn an interception into a "pick 6" from almost anywhere on the field. At times it seems the A rating is too powerful.

Going through some of the teams in my collection, I noticed that the 1978 Houston Oilers have an A Turnover Return rating. I decided to look up their stats and discovered that they had about a 12 yd. per interception return rate and their fumble return rate was actually negative!!

So, I wonder, how do the 1978 Oilers earn an A Turnover Return rating? Is the rating a mistake? Should it really be "C"?

Not trying to uncover the rating formula, but just curious as to what the rating is intended to represent if not actual return yardage on a fumble and interception.

Anybody have any ideas?

I have noticed the same thing in GIW and Mean Genes football. There has only been one tabletop football that is actually statistically real. These two games are fun to play but not as accurate statistically as you may want.

I'm satisfied enough with the accuracy of GIW, but I do wonder about these Turnover Return Ratings. I certainly leave room for the possibility that the Oilers' rating I referenced is just a typo on the team sheet.

I'm hoping someone from the game company chimes in on this.

Looking things over, it would appear to be a typo. Houston should be a "C" for 1978. Those ratings were done when things were don 100% by "hand", so data entry error is the most likely culprit.

Thank you for the response. I figured it must have been a typo. An "A" rating is a very powerful asset for a team and Houston did not seem to warrant that in 1978.
