I have been playing a lot of GridIron Wars lately with the 1940s and 1950s All-time Great Teams sets. I have combined the sets to create an old-school college football universe. As of today, my ranking of the Top 10 is as follows:

1. 1955 Texas Christian
2. 1945 Army
3. 1947 Penn State
4. 1941 Notre Dame
5. 1950 Tennessee
6. 1953 Notre Dame
7. 1950 Kentucky
8. 1948 Tulane
9. 1952 Oklahoma
10. 1950 Northwestern

1955 TCU is Number 1 by virtue of a 1-point victory over 45 Army, 27-26 (Army missed an extra point). 1953 Maryland had been ranked #7, but was upset yesterday by 1950 Northwestern, 29-22.

I am having so much fun with these sets. I love history and enjoy discovering players I had not heard much about. I also like this era because of the variety of teams which could compete on a high level. For example, the 1947 Penn team is 3-1 and falls just outside my Top 10, but its possible they could crack the rankings soon.

Some scores of recent games I have had are the following:

1940 Minnesota 10 (353 total yds, all rushing!!)
1940 Stanford 10

1948 Oregon 23 (Norm Van Brocklin - 272 yds passing, 2 TDs)
1946 UCLA 13

1940 Michigan 11 (Tommy Harmon 103 yds rushing, 1 TD, 2 FGs)
1949 Ohio State 10

1952 Duke 0
1947 Penn 3 (Ed Lawless kicks 22-yd FG on last play of game)

1946 Texas 20 (Bobby Layne 207 yds passing, 1 TD pass, 2 TD runs)
1941 Virginia 13

Next up will be 2 unranked teams, 1949 Minnesota at 1958 Wisconsin.
