Using Data Boxing PC, I staged a recreation of the 1952 Marciano-Savold heavyweight bout held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Marciano, an undefeated and rising star, was represented with his peak ratings, while the past-peak Savold was reduced in efficiency -2 (Savold was at his peak from 1939-1946). The DBLINE file reports...

P = points; J = judge cards; R = rounds; N = knockdowns; C&I = cut&injury
+ = 1/2; ' = 1/3; " = 2/3

Rocky Marciano KO3 Lee Savold<< P14+/9 J18'/19 R1/1 N1[3]/0 C&I0/0

1952: Marciano vs Walcott

In 1952, Rocky Marciano KO'd Jersey Joe Walcott in the 13th round at Philadelphia, PA to win the world heavyweight championship.The fight was named the 16th Greatest Title Fight of All-Time by The Ring in 1996. Click here for the BoxRec Fight Page.

Using Data Boxing PC, I staged a replay of the 1952 heavyweight title bout between Jersey Joe Walcott and Rocky Marciano. The DBLINE file reports...

P = points; J = judge cards; R = rounds; N = knockdowns; C&I = cut&injury
+ = 1/2; ' = 1/3; " = 2/3

Rocky Marciano KO7 Jersey Joe Walcott P11+/15+ J57/56 R4/2 N0/0 C&I1/1

COMMENT: Rocky ignored his doubters, worked hard and believed in himself. He embodied the maxim "Doubt whom you will, but never yourself" as he went on to defy the odds and become heavyweight champion. To quote from Think and Grow Rich: "Throughout this philosophy will be found the suggestion that thought, backed by strong desire, has a tendency to transmute itself into its physical equivalent." On September 23, 1952, Rocky Marciano's strong desire was transmuted into reality when he clinched the heavyweight championship of the world.
