The WCCW TV Championship is the least prestigious of the 4 WCCW belts, but the inaugural tournament has drawn a surprisingly strong field, largely comprised of individuals who feel they have been unfairly "cheated" out of the "other" two belts. (We see no reason to break up a rather excellent tag team roster, plus tag team action is especially popular in Texas. Plus, after one tournament, what's the problem, anyway?)
NUMBERS: 10 March 1986 KTVT (Channel 11) Studios, Fort Worth Att: 200 (and cramped at that!)
1- Lance Von Erich vs. 8- Buddy Roberts (w/Precious)
4- Al Perez (w/Akbar) vs. 5- Tatsumi Fujinami
3- Eric Embry (w/Pringle) vs. 6-Abdullah The Butcher
2- Buzz Sawyer vs. 7-Jeff Jarrett (w/Cornette)
OPENING ROUND:
1- BUDDY, in the pose of a "heel" attempts a chairshot on LANCE, who reverses it. LANCE, then, with a top-rope kneedrop and the pin.
2- AL PEREZ, listening to AKBAR is hit from behind by FUJINAMI. Then, is attacked by a "fan", whose appearance reminds many of ["Oh, who what was that guy?"]. So AL starts out about -300 down. Still he guts it out, winning with a "sleeper" some regard as a blatant choke.
3- ERIC EMBRY is hated by the crowd, annoying ABDULLAH, whose main act is to draw "heel heat". ERIC uses the ropes to cheat to a victory. Few are very happy with this.
4- BUZZ SAWER and JEFF JARRETT apparently mutually subscribe to the "Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat" mantra. JEFF attacks BUZZ before the bell, and CORNETTE follows with a fairly decent forehand smash. JEFF wins (a "clean" pin) w/o further use of JIM's racquet.)
NEXT ROUND:
Not LANCE's finest match. He gets tongue-tied on the mic and loses a portion of the crowd who would normally forgive the Von Erichs anything. He does gain a wrestling edge over AL PEREZ, but AKBAR comes to the rescue. LANCE appears wildly overmatched, but PEREZ is DQ'd as ref spots AKBAR handing him a totally unnecessary roll of quarters. Ah, the "morality" of it all. (This is a kayfabe promotion!)
JARRETT vs, EMBRY promises a good match. Which was delivered. An early choke gains EMBRY points. As PERCY argues with the ref, JEFF clocks both ERIC and PERCY. CORNETTE chimes in with a racquet shot to ERIC's head. This one hardly resembles a "wrestling" match. Though, quite banged-up, the tough EMBRY piledrives JJ with his last remaining strength. A "snakebit" wrestler is JARRETT.
FINALE:
Oh, take a wild guess. EMBRY DQ'd. LANCE hauls down the first Championship Belt (albeit a minor one) for the "Ruling" Von Erich Family. |

1. I use the Biblical ycleption convention solely for convenience-sake. No "hidden meaning"-- a la "The DaVinci Codes" (a novel, dammit!) is intended. I simply don't want to agonize over "card names" while booking. Plus it makes it easier to look up results since (unless you're a biblical scholar) the order is pretty much fixed. Plus Vince and the Masked Maniac (Fred Goodman) have taken most of the cool "wrestling event" names anyway.
2. I don't like title changes every couple of weeks. Thus, the WCCW World Champion gets a +200 bump while reigning and a +100 bump "for life". (Everyone eventually loses. The Dice Say So!) Plus results are read "one line down" in Championship matches.
3. Tag Team Champs get a +100 bump @. Lifetime a +50 @. Plus one line down in Championship matches.
4. Texas Champs get a +100 plus "one line down". Unsure about lifetime bumps. I be flexible. This is truly "only a game".
5. TV Champs? A mere +50 bump. "NO lines down". This title is designed for workers who want to pose with their belts to pad their resumes. My TV Division is EXTREMELY competitive, though some dudes contending for the "major" titles might view it as a "step down". But since there are no jobbers currently in the WCCW (I have enough legitimate talent to manage anyway) a high level of competition is assured.
6. "Heat" bumps are translated into points. I round up by 50s or 100s. I don't "heels" or "faces" since these designations are situational. Not sure I like "lifetime" heat bumps, but I be flexible. Steve Simpson, for sparking the Astrodome riot gets a permanent +100. The Samoans, sure, a +50 @. Embry a +50. I'll award heat points according to events. No one gets them gratuitously.
7. I use Frank's "Normal" re-roll Pre-Match Event Chart, though I intend to add to it at leisure. This might be Frank's most significant (and we have much here from which to choose) contribution to Ultra Quick.
8. I find Frank's manager Interference Chart a bit extreme, but still employ it since I don't feel any obligation to invoke it every single time.
9. I NEVER use the Post-Match Events Chart. It's a story-line killer.
10. I'm working on a variation of Frank's TV Interview chart. I plan to employ it for my Saturday AM tapings, but the current version simply doesn't offer a broad enough spectrum of possible events.
11. I don't have a viable COR system in place. Nor a viable "draw" system. Frank, please enlighten me. Time-limit draws are underrepresented, especially among reasonably evenly-matched an/or "feuding" wrestlers. Outside of "No DQ" matches, NDs oughta happen more frequently.
12. Somebody axed about record-keeping. I simply save my scoresheets (enough room for commentary, esp. as I use abbrvs.) and keep my W-L-D's in a spiral notebook. From time to time I'll do a "leader board".
13. I reserve the privilege of changing my mind about just about everything. My WWWF, Vintage and nearly-defunct XWF (Frank-- how do you do your own "Hardcore" Fed?) Federations play by different rules and charts. The "Martin Boards", while clever, just mean more dice rolls to me, so I don't currently use them.
I'll be happy to correspond avec all-- online, please, though I know sometimes it takes patience to post on Herr Downey's board. I rather strongly advise writing it elsewhere then doing a copy/paste #. I play UQW in fits and spurts. The "real world" intrudes sometimes. |

1--So, for a curtain-raiser, JIMMY GARVIN contested JEFF JARRETT. (Come early, folks, we start on time, and the roster is strong!), PRECIOUS "distracts" JEFF early (as she once "distracted" me way back when) but then CORNETTE clocked GARVIN who pretty much was reduced to naught. JJ with a figure 4 submission win. JIMMY dragged it out, but he was hurt bad, maybe JJ gets the credit for this one.
2-- The dice read "fan pop for BUZZ SAWYER's music"? BUZZ has music? Well he had his power slam intact! Let us keep this feud alive! Unlikely star ERIC EMBRY loses.
3-- The FREEBIRDS once again get the better of the VON EERICHS (DAVID et MIKE). HAYES pins MIKE apres a stunning DDT. This one was quite the crowd-pleaser. Yeah, it be a VON ERICH crowd, but how not to like the FREEBIRDS?
4-- KERRY, then. "Claws" AL PEREZ into submition. Neither of these guys is getting over all that well, ergo their midcarder status.
5-- RICK RUDE draws major heat, as does THE MISSING LINK. After a long battle, THE LINK locks in "The Lock". Wins. Major heel heat for both dudes. Plus women and gay dudes like both.
6-- The inevitable TONY ATLAS/ STEVE SIMPSON bout. STEVE might be somewhat overrated, but the fans respond. While an entertaining match, TONY wins with a Press Slam, barring the improbable. But: Tony as Champion in the first place?
7-- A Cage Match! THE GREAT KABUKI, fighting dirty escapes the cage as KING PARSONS, victim of a choke, lies inert.
This was a really good card. |

1-- CACTUS JACK vs. BRUISER BRODY? Why, a brawl, of course. BRUISER cheated blatantly, even finishing JACK off with a "foreign object". JACK wanted to "go on", but the ref counted 3.
2--GINO HERNANDEZ prettty much ends BLACK BART's WCCW career with a rather indifferent nerve-hold submission move. Rumor has it that "KILLER" BRROKS will fill the unimpressive BART's slot soon.
3-- Blame SUNSHINE! BAM BAM (YURKOFF) was doing okay after chair-shotting CHRIS ADAMS. But SUNSHINE screwed the pooch by calling for "reinforcements" for a fallen CHRIS. No one responded. Was he "really" hurt? No one knows.
4-- KEVIN VON ERICH vs. MIL MASCARAS? While I thought they were friends, MIL hit KEVIN with a chairshot. Chaos followed. Ref down, Brother MIKE blatantly interfering. KEVIN somehow gets the "duke".
5-- A good one! ABDULLAH stabs LANCE with a fork and wins the Texas TV championship belt... which he is too fat to wear, but waves triumphantly.
6-- JERRY LAWLER, "slumming". wins a DQ as "THE ANGEL OF DEATH" brings in a knife. JERRY, rumor has it, wants to get into broadcasting. Oh, and his back is hurt.
7-- FRTIZ again takes to the Squared Circle and manages a "Time Limit Draw" vs. TED ARCIDI. FRITZ didn't really want to wrestle, but traffic is tough in "Tejas". Really, it is! |

So I was cleaning out my closet, plus was e-mailed by several dice-rooler dudes almost simultaneous-like, so I re-discovered "intage". The despicable "Steve Austin" (not even al original name) won my initial tournament, but does thart make him the Champeen? No!
In a tournament yclept "Beginners Luck", we rented out the Elks Lodge in Queens (a fine wrestling venue, esp. if you've never been there before). So:
HOGAN over MAGIFICENT MURACO. DON clocked HULK during his "say you prayers and shoot steroids" rap, but HULK won with his pathetic "Atomic Knee Drop". Phew!
DICK THE BRUISER attempted to "sneak attack" RICKY STEAMBOAT, but RICKY took him down with a top-rope knee drop.
GORILLA MONSOON airplained KURT ANGLE, then, basically, fell on him for the pin. Amusing match.
H
SUPERSTAR GRAHM "savagely attacked" JYD before the bell rang, setting him up for a bear-hug submission.
The IRON SHEIK caused GEORGE THE ANIMAL STEELE to submit to the Camel Clutch. I wished I could have watched this one!
THE ROCK (Dwayne Johnson) "people- elbowed" JESSE VENTURA, then pinned him in a ZERO * match.
KILLER KOWALSKI vs. ANTONINO ROCCA? Why, of course, a classic of a match.
They sure went long, but The Masked Man KO'd Rocca and placed Killer atop him. Ref barely understood anything. Um, Kayfabe.
Annoyingly, HHH took down MICK FOLEY with the Pedigree. |

HOGAN takes down GORILLA MONSOON with a boring "leg drop finish< GINO carried Mr. Bollea, yes.
HHH somehow beat THE ROCK. They put on a pretty goog show, though
Next Round? |

The "Masked Man" attempted an attack on HHH. 'Twas thwarted. HHH "Pedigrees THE HULK, most annoyingly. Fans be rooting for the fraud. Sad.
Next Round? Brazil coco-butts Hgan and quickly covers, Dice roled good this time.
"Playboys" FLAIR and ROGERS square off. Fans "mess with Buddy's head", reducing him, RIC wins avec the Figure 4 over the dude he imitted. Amusing, really.
BACKLUND sunset flips, then pins HHH. Now onto the Finals!
Why BOBO BRAZIL upsets Ric Flair. Coco butt KO's the dude! Wow!
BACKLUND and RANDY SAVAGE lay it long. A ***** match. RANDY with a Flying axehanle pin. Dudes embrace after the duke. |
