I've just been doing one-off races with FAR, so time for a replay. Set-up is easy, just lay out the driver cards on the track display and start rolling.

In the actual season, Richard Petty and Darrell Waltrip had a great battle for the Winston Cup, with Waltrip finishing just 11 points behind Petty.

First race is on Jan. 14, the Western 500 in Riverside, CA.

Well I played my first game last night , it was fun. The final step of figuring out the order using the grooves is a bit confusing.... but fun over all .

The "grooves" rules are easier to use than they look at first glance. A very helpful step-by-step pdf visual aid for the entire finishing order process was posted here at one point, I'll see if I can find it.

The finishing order file was in the download section, but I have a copy which I posted to Google drive. You should be able to view or download it from there. If you or anyone else has a problem viewing it, let me know.

One other tip which I picked up from Phil's (lead designer) sample race, is to write down the retired drivers on the result sheet as they leave the race, saves some time.

Thanks for the file , to my surprise I believe I did it correctly . One quick question , my winner was in the middle groove , I then moved to the "top" groove and then the "bottom" groove. was this correct ?

I believe you did it correctly. The rules say: "the middle groove is always followed by the top groove, and the top groove is always followed by the middle groove."

Were you using the Short Track Legends set? Who won?

I used the 2017 NASCAR set , I decided I would give the game a real effort. I ran Daytona , Joey Logano won followed by Kyle Busch.

Texas World Speedway as it is now. No longer a racetrack, used to store cars damaged in Hurricane Harvey.

I have a quick question maybe you can help me with. On the last challenge of the race , if the challenger is on the lead lap but cannot possibly win the challenge , do they still finish second or go a lap down ? I had Danica Patrick challenge Kyle Busch with no chance of winning....... I kept her second. Which made me laugh actually. Just not sure

When I began playing the game again recently, I saw that I had added a note to the rules for the final challenge about this--the challenger's race rating can't be two or more lower to the race leader (in other words, the challenger has to be within one of the race leader to qualify for the final challenge). Not sure when the clarification or addition was made, or if it's part of current rules. If someone else has more info, please chime in.

That would make sense to me , I may have missed it. Thanks

Did a little more checking, and found the answer in Phil's sample race in this forum:

"This leaves us with the Final Challenge. Only the highest rated driver adjacent to the race leader can challenge, provided that his race rating is not 2 or more lower than that of the race leader."

Thanks, Rick! Nice to see a post from you again.

I don't have the racing background that yourself and others have, but I'm really enjoying working my way through the season. Aside from the actual races, it's interesting to see the different tracks, particularly the defunct ones, and watch how the field for each race changes from week to week.

If anyone is looking for a racing game that plays quickly, has a nice level of detail, and a minimum of paperwork, give FAR a try. End of commercial, back to the races...
